This novel basically revolves around three character dev ,paro and chandra..
Devdas which on one side was a emotional love story...or i should say very emotional ..and which is being remaked many times(3 as per my memory excluding DEV-D)...and with each time it became a bigger hit...(leaving the 1928 one by Naresh Mitra).
It was created first by Naresh Mitra but it was not a hit so we will stay away from that(Also i haven't seen that movie and i am not familiar with 1928 Devdas..but this devdas was a silent version) then it was remaked by bimal roy starring the all time favorite Dilip kumar(dev),vjantimala(chandra),Suchitra sen(paro). It was a big hit of that time...
Then came a revised edition in the form of Devdas made by Sanjay leela bansali, starring Sharukh khan(dev),madhuri dixit(chandra) & aishwariya Rai(paro)...It again came as a big hit of 2002 by breaking all the previous records....
And then came the biggest Shock in the form of Dev D made by a maverick Anurag kashyap, with new actors like abhay deol(dev ), and a new heroine for the role of paro(Mahii gil) and a foreigner for the role of chandra(kalka)...and i won't say it was the biggest hit ..but it was decent hit..but we really have to laud the experiment done by it's director Anurag kashyap
As on the previous three Devdas occasion the directors were well known personality in industry ..all the actors were known by their name and the story line was also basically based completely on the novel.......
While Anurag was thought as a experimental and as a director who still has to make a foot in this film industry..And he used new actors to cast in his film..and the biggest diffrence is the story line.......
But i am not concerned with the changes made with the director or the character's but with the diffrence in the ideologies of the two movies..
Where on one hand in the devdas the dev loves his paro a lot...but due to some missunderstanding they fail to meet and she got married to a other person ...and our dev trying to forget her memories make his life a hell by just drinking alcohol...and remembering her....
And the biggest stupidity is that he misses the person who really loves him ...Chanda.(madhuri dixit)...and someone has greatly said "don' love those whom you want to love but love those who love you"..
And In the end he dies...without any responsibility towards his parent ,society ,his alma mater..and many more things with which a person get associated as soon as he takes a birth in this beutiful world...
On the other side Dev D start's on the same line...just the dev has got more advanced ........basically it's 2008 ..the paro is more open..(great somehow...finally indians are getting out of their IBCD ideology)...waise IBCD is indian based confused desi..which don't know whether they should follow western culture or indian culture...and always seem confused.....
Anurag has brought a foreigner for the role of chandrmukhi who is greatly influenced by the devdas of Sanjay leela Bansali , In this movie Anurag very clearly and beutifully depicted the present scenario.. and it has shown about today's love thing...
Abhay in the role of deva depicts the younger generation who doesnt' care about their parents but just want to enjoy their life....they belong to affluent familes and want to spend their money in all the wrong manner...
But what i like in DEV-D that's lacking in Devdas is that in the end he realizes that it's high time now and he should start making his career rather than spoiling it and secondly he accepts the person who truly loves him irrespective of where she belong...and what profession he does giving a very beutiful message that"love is all about the present and not the past..."
I really liked both the movies but i believe that a person has lot of responsibilities which are more important that love...b'coz everyone faces difficulties in life but if everyone start ending their life in this fashion than only one buisness will boom that of liquor and no one less.....and all these marvellous achievements would never be there ...
We should use our hatred(or love what some people say's but i never call it love b'coz love can't be destructive it can only take you up ) also in constructive manner i.e. we should try to focus on great things in life which have to achieved(the ultimate aim) ....and i promise they would provide you with great satisfaction and would provide you succour in the time of this distress..
So do post what you think abt it...till the next blog keep enjoying ,as enjoying is the leit motif of a person's life...
This is to inform you that-:
ReplyDeleteFirst DEVDAS movie was made in 1928 but that was not upto mark. Most famous adaptation in Bengali was made by Pramatesh Barua in 1935 and his cinematographer Bimal Roy has made another in 1955 which was in hindi.
Again Bimal Roy had succeeded like Pramathesh and DILIP KUMAR (tragedy king) became icon as DEVDAS.
thanks for your valuable insight in this matter...i would update this info on the blog...
